In 9 Ball, you must hit the lowest-numbered ball first on every shot. If you legally pocket the 9 ball at any time, you win. On the break, you must hit the 1 ball first; if you pocket any ball you keep shooting, and if you legally sink the 9 on the break you win immediately.

A shot is legal only if you contact the lowest ball first, and then either pocket a ball or hit a rail with any ball (including the cue ball). Fouls, such as scratching, hitting the wrong ball first, failing to hit a rail or pocket a ball after contact, or missing all balls, give your opponent ball-in-hand, meaning they can place the cue ball anywhere.

How to Play

Pocket the balls in order from 1 to 9. The next (lowest-numbered) ball is shown by your avatar while you’re shooting.

If you see arrows around the cue ball, you can click and drag it to place it; this happens on the break or after your opponent fouls. Tip: Click the cue ball icon at the top of the screen to change spin.
