It's a real limitation. WhatCable reads the identity data stored inside your cable's e-marker chip. Apple only started exposing that data to apps in macOS 14 (Sonoma). On Ventura the underlying port hardware is visible, but the cable identity info isn't surfaced by the OS. That said, if you're on Ventura and want to help verify, plug in a USB-C cable and run this in Terminal: If it returns nothing, the OS isn't exposing the cable identity data on your version. If it does return output, let me know and I'll look at dropping the minimum. |

Why? Is this an artificial restriction or are there real reasons? It's hard to believe that a small utility has important dependencies on the OS version.
